Mexico City, October 23, 2023.- Von Wobeser y Sierra, S.C. (Von Wobeser), a leading Mexican full-service law firm, proudly announces the launch of its tailor-made, large language model (LLM) chatbot, VonBot®. The firm worked with Datasaur, a natural language processing (NLP) platform, to develop the AI-powered chatbot. This innovative tool, designed for internal use, underscores the firm’s commitment to leveraging technology to enhance the services it offers.

Conceived as an in-house legal assistant, VonBot excels at fielding questions from specific source documents, managing complex queries, and summarizing content. The firm envisions continuous enhancements to VonBot, incorporating new features to further improve its efficacy.

In line with Von Wobeser’s “Principles for the Use of Generative Artificial Intelligence” published earlier this year, the development of VonBot prioritized client privacy and confidentiality. For its use, the firm recognizes the crucial role of human oversight to ensure the high standards its clients expect.

This innovative tool will enhance the efficiency of Von Wobeser’s team of over 150 world-class lawyers, many of whom are already utilizing other firm-approved LLMs and AI-powered applications for specific purposes. Luis Burgueño, a partner, said “Generative AI empowers our human talent, which remains and will continue as the firm’s most valuable asset. By harnessing this technology, we can offer agile and competitive services, allowing us to focus on value-added work for our clients.”

For VonBot’s development, the firm collaborated with Datasaur to build a custom model tailored to Mexican law and the firm’s own data. Datasaur’s dedicated team of experts, working closely alongside Von Wobeser’s project team, meticulously reviewed multiple iterations to ensure that the resultant chatbot developed specialized domain knowledge.

The joint effort required heavy customization of the model, specifically geared towards achieving a superior level of accuracy. Moreover, it required mitigating common issues associated with LLMs, such as hallucinations, and avoiding the privacy concerns arising from the use of commercially available LLMs. This optimized model underscores Von Wobeser’s commitment to delivering innovative solutions to its clients.

“From our initial discussions with Von Wobeser, we were struck by the firm’s forward-thinking approach,” said Ivan Lee, CEO and founder of Datasaur. “They exemplify adaptability in a profession often seen as resistant to change.” He further highlighted the synergy between Von Wobeser's mission and Datasaur’s expertise in NLP, making it an ideal partnership for the text-intensive legal field. Lee continued, “Datasaur’s unwavering focus on natural language processing aligns seamlessly with the demands of the legal industry. Over the years, we have collaborated with legal tech companies to refine AI models to meet the nuanced and precision-driven requirements of discerning legal clientele.”

True to the firm's motto, “we go where our clients need us,” VonBot embodies Von Wobeser’s proactive approach to meeting those needs. Pablo Jiménez, a partner, emphasized, “As standards of excellence in the legal industry evolve, so must we. VonBot is a testament to our dedication to innovating and integrating cutting-edge technology to better serve our clients.” He added, “This initiative will also assist in training our lawyers to use new tools, providing them with essential skills for an ever-changing environment.”
