Dear clients and friends,
We are pleased to share our contribution to Latin Lawyer’s Guide to Corporate Crisis Management (4th ed.), titled "Crisis Mode: Have Your ESG Team on Speed Dial", co-authored by Pablo Jiménez and Luis Burgueño, co-heads of our Corporate and M&A practice and members of our ESG group.
There is heightened and increasing interest from a broad range of stakeholders who expect companies to step up on their management of ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) issues related to their business and supply chain. The adoption of an ESG approach is a global, unstoppable and irreversible trend, and ESG is becoming mainstream.
ESG is a hallmark of forward-thinking management and embarking on this journey is one of the most important steps an organization can take to protect and create value in a volatile, complex and fast-paced business environment.
Companies with strong ESG scores have shown greater resilience and are better prepared to respond to crises. A solid ESG process will allow a company to move quickly from crisis mode to business continuity mode and, eventually, to business as usual.
Regardless of the corporate function entrusted with the coordination of the multidisciplinary ESG-related efforts, the legal and compliance team plays a fundamental role, since the governance element is a cornerstone of an effective program.
