New Minimum Wages Effective January 1, 2025

Today, the resolution of the Council of Representatives of the National Minimum Wage Commission (CONASAMI) was published in the Official Gazette of the Federation (DOF), establishing the general minimum wage and the minimum wage applicable to the Northern Border Free Zone, as well as the minimum wages for professions, trades, and special jobs, which will take effect on January 1, 2025.

Today, the resolution of the Council of Representatives of the National Minimum Wage Commission (CONASAMI) was published in the Official Gazette of the Federation (DOF), establishing the general minimum wage and the minimum wage applicable to the Northern Border Free Zone, as well as the minimum wages for professions, trades, and special jobs, which will take effect on January 1, 2025.

In this regard, the new minimum wages are as follows:
• General minimum wage: $278.80 pesos per day.
• Minimum wage for the Northern Border Free Zone: $419.88 pesos per day.

As in previous years, CONASAMI agreed on a 12% wage increase for both zones. The increase in the general minimum wages was calculated by adding an Independent Recovery Amount (MIR) of $12.85 pesos to the minimum wage in effect in 2024, along with a 6.5% adjustment. This results in a general minimum wage of $278.80 pesos per day ($248.93 + $12.85 + 6.5%).

For the Northern Border Free Zone, an MIR of $19.36 pesos was established, plus the 6.5% increase, resulting in a daily minimum wage of $419.88 pesos ($374.89 + $19.36 + 6.5%).

It is important to emphasize that the MIR should not be used as a reference for determining increases in other wages currently in effect in the labor market. However, the professional minimum wages for trades, professions, and special jobs will experience a 12% increase in both geographic areas.

Similarly, it is worth mentioning that the 12% wage increase exceeds inflation levels, which may directly impact the review and negotiation of collective bargaining agreements. Therefore, it will be necessary to review the terms of these agreements to analyze potential impacts.
