The article uses this scenario to illustrate the challenges of making decisions in volatile and uncertain environments shaped by multiple stakeholder expectations.

The analysis emphasizes that there are no universally applicable answers to these situations. Executives and boards of directors must understand their operating environment, identify stakeholder expectations, understand their obligations and assess alternatives that enable them to manage risks and create long-term value in line with the organization’s purpose.
