The expansion of artificial intelligence is strengthening the connection between critical minerals, digital infrastructure, energy and sustainability.
Our partner Edmond Grieger and associate Stefania Lopardo examine the growing interdependence between artificial intelligence, data centers, energy demand and critical minerals in the context of the global energy transition.
Drawing on the discussions surrounding COP30 and the Belém Package, the article considers the need to develop more sustainable, traceable and resilient mineral supply chains, while incorporating social justice and just transition principles into projects associated with energy and digital infrastructure.
The analysis also addresses the challenges Mexico faces in realizing its mining potential within this transformation, particularly the need for greater regulatory certainty and a framework that balances economic development, sustainability and community participation.
