Possible extension to the implementation of the new front-of-package warning labeling system under NOM-051-SCFI/SSA1-2010

The draft agreement establishes that producers, importers or marketers of products subject to the new labeling system will not be penalized during the verifications that PROFECO and the Federal Commission for the Protection against Sanitary Risks (COFEPRIS) carry out from September 1, 2020 to November 30, 2020. In addition, said draft would also allow the sale of beverages and foods to the final consumer to be maintained until November 30, 2020, even if they do not contain the new front-of-package warning labeling system. In practice, the agreement would be delaying the mandatory nature of the new labeling system from October 1 to November 30, 2020. In any case, it is important to clarify that this extension will be effective once it is published in the Official Gazette of the Federation.
