Today, the resolution of the Council of Representatives of the National Minimum Wage Commission (CONASAMI) setting the general and professional minimum wages that will be in effect as of January 1, 2021, was published in the Official Gazette of the Federation (DOF).
As we indicated in our previous bulletin (to review it, click here), the new minimum wages are: • General minimum wage: $141.70 pesos per day. • Minimum wage for the Northern Border Free Zone: $213.39 pesos per day. As in previous years, and in order to reach the amounts indicated above, CONASAMI agreed to an increase of $10.46 pesos per day for the Independent Recovery Amount (MIR) plus a 6% increase, resulting in an amount of $141.70 pesos per day (current minimum wage ($123.22 pesos) + MIR ($10.46 pesos) + 6% = $141.70). In turn, for the Northern Border Free Zone, a MIR of 15.75 pesos per day was agreed upon plus the 6% setting factor (current minimum wage ($185.56 pesos) + MIR ($15.75 pesos) + 6% = $213.39). It is important to note that the MIR should not be used as a reference for setting increases in the other wages in effect in the labor market. Additionally, two occupations are added to the list of professional minimum wages: (i) domestic workers, with a 25% increase over the current general minimum wage, resulting in the amount of $154.03 pesos per day; and (ii) day laborers, with a 30% increase over the current general minimum wage, resulting in the amount of $160.19 pesos per day.
