Amendments to the USMCA/T-MEC

Today, the governments of Mexico, the United States and Canada signed in our country certain amendments to the Agreement between the United Mexican States, the United States of America and Canada (“T-MEC”), notwithstanding that an initial text had even already been ratified by the Senate of the Republic on June 19, 2019. Although the three countries had already agreed on a definitive version of the T-MEC text that would replace the North American Free Trade Agreement, its ratification by some members of the Congress of the United States of America was conditioned upon the inclusion of certain additional points, which resulted in a de facto reopening of the negotiations that would conclude today.
