Administrative Measures – Opening of the 2026 FIFA World Cup in Mexico City.
The Decree published on June 9, 2026 encourages private-sector companies and employers to implement remote work, telework or other flexible arrangements on June 11, without establishing a public holiday, non-working day or mandatory obligation for employers.
On June 9, 2026, a decree establishing administrative measures in connection with the opening of the FIFA World Cup 2026 in Mexico City was published in the Federal Official Gazette (the “Decree”).
Through the Decree, private-sector companies and employers are encouraged to implement telework, remote work or other flexible working arrangements on June 11, 2026 for all non-essential administrative activities.
The measure is intended to contribute to urban mobility and road safety during the opening of the FIFA World Cup 2026.
It is important to clarify that the scope of the Decree is limited and consists solely of an invitation to private-sector companies and employers to adopt flexible working arrangements for non-essential administrative activities.
Accordingly, the Decree does not establish June 11, 2026 as a public holiday or non-working day, nor does it require employers to suspend operations or implement telework arrangements. Rather, it is a recommendation from the Federal Government aimed at promoting flexible work arrangements that may help reduce the impact on mobility in Mexico City on that date.
Companies should assess, based on their operational needs and the nature of their activities, whether it is appropriate to implement telework, remote work or other flexible arrangements for non-essential administrative functions.
