Circular economy in Mexico: a new ESG standard for companies
Mexico’s new Circular Economy Law reshapes corporate obligations on sustainability, traceability, governance and waste management.
Our partner Luis Burgueño authored the Expansión ESG article “La economía circular y el nuevo estándar ESG para las empresas en México,” in which he examines the implications of Mexico’s Circular Economy Law enacted in January 2026 and its impact on the sustainability strategies of companies operating in Mexico.
Luis explains that the new framework goes beyond environmental management and introduces challenges involving ecodesign, traceability, waste recovery, monitoring, reporting and internal controls. He also highlights that incorporating circularity into corporate strategy may help strengthen compliance, respond to investor and global supply chain expectations, and manage long-term risks.
