12 Years of Struggle and Latin America Maintains the Same Level of Corruption

Since the previous decade, Latin America promised to confront corruption, and at that time it already seemed that Brazil would lead the cause. The first results of the emblematic Lava Jato operation came to light in 2014 and continue to generate consequences to this day, not only for Brazil, but for a dozen more countries, including the United States.

With the exception of Brazil, Peru, and Ecuador, in the region a rule seems to hold: more corruption cases are disclosed by journalistic agencies than by investigations orchestrated by the authorities. This translates into a well-informed citizenry, which in turn becomes aware of the political will of their governments. Thus, the perception of the level of corruption in each country will depend on how the investigations end.
