Von Wobeser y Sierra held its 2026 Annual Seminar, a forum for reflection, learning, and dialogue that brought together the firm's lawyers to examine some of the leading issues transforming Mexico's legal and business environment, as well as the future of legal services.
Held as part of Von Wobeser y Sierra's 40th anniversary, the event addressed the evolution of artificial intelligence in legal practice, progress under the firm's Innovation and Transformation Program, and business-relevant topics including new energy-investment rules, the review of the USMCA, and the evolution of tax litigation.
Richard Susskind and the impact of artificial intelligence on legal services
A central moment of the Annual Seminar was the participation of Professor Richard Susskind, an international reference on the technological transformation of the legal sector and the future of professional services.
In a conversation moderated by our partner Pablo Jiménez Zorrilla, Professor Susskind shared several of the central ideas from his book How to Think About AI: A Guide for the Perplexed. He reflected on the development of artificial intelligence, its impact on legal services, and the changes redefining how lawyers work, generate knowledge, and deliver value to their clients.
The discussion examined the opportunities that artificial intelligence offers the legal profession, as well as the importance of incorporating these tools strategically while keeping the judgment and experience of professionals at the heart of legal advice.
Strategic legal issues for businesses in Mexico
During the seminar, lawyers from several Von Wobeser y Sierra practice areas also examined matters relevant to companies operating and investing in Mexico.
The sessions included conversations on the new investment rules for the energy sector, the main challenges and opportunities arising from the USMCA review, and the evolution of tax litigation in Mexico.
The exchange among different practice areas made it possible to analyze these developments from a multidisciplinary perspective and strengthen a shared view of legal and economic trends that affect business decision-making.
Innovation and transformation at Von Wobeser y Sierra
The 2026 Annual Seminar also provided the setting to present progress under Von Wobeser y Sierra's Innovation and Transformation Program, an initiative designed to evolve the way the firm works and delivers its services by combining legal knowledge, talent, and new technological capabilities.
Our counsel, Marcela A. Calderón Fernández, presented the program's vision, guiding principles, and progress. The program is conceived as a collective, long-term transformation process.
As part of this initiative, multidisciplinary teams at the firm developed artificial intelligence-based solutions for specific needs within the legal practices. The projects were evaluated by the partners under scalability, impact, and innovation criteria.
The recognized initiatives came from the Litigation and Arbitration, Corporate and Mergers & Acquisitions, and Investigations, Compliance and Anti-Corruption practices.
This work has contributed to the development of 16 artificial intelligence agents in operation for different Von Wobeser y Sierra practices, as part of a strategy intended to turn technological innovation into concrete solutions for our teams and, ultimately, for our clients.

In the year of our 40th anniversary, the Annual Seminar provided an opportunity to reflect both on the changes transforming the legal environment and on the evolution of our own firm.
